The "Man in Stocks" was designed by the most famous sculptors of the 20th century, Ernst Barlach. It was designed in 1918, the last year of the First World War. The sufferer seems not to be able to break out of his fate of being captivated. The "Man in Stocks" is a rare art work by Ernst Barlach, which was cast by Richard Barth in Berlin. The cast is signed with "E. Barlach".

The bronze figure was made in the lost wax method practiced for thousands of years and meets strict quality guidelines. The process is subject to a complex, multi-day process of more than 30 steps.

Ernst Barlach (1870-1938) is one of the most famous sculptors of German Expressionism. Especially through his wood sculptures and bronze sculptures Barlach has made a name far beyond national borders.
